Frequently Asked Questions

We except Mental Health Care Plans, Chronic Disease Management Plans, Specialists referrals, NDIS self-managed and Plan Managed, Private Health Insurance, Brisbane Minds just to name a few. Please consult with our reception at the time of enquiry.

I have a MHCP; why do I still need to pay for my appointments? Young Minds is a private practice and we do not bulk bill. Please speak to you GP should you require a referral to a bulk billing Psychologist.

Do you see all ages? Yes. We see young children right through to the elderly. Everyone is welcome.

Why are my Psychology appointments only 50 minutes long? This is to allow the Psychologist time to write case notes, prepare for further appointments, provide progress letters to GP’s and as a buffer in case the session runs longer than anticipated as to not disrupt the next client.

Do you offer Psychometric Assessment? Yes. We offer many types of Assessment. For more information on Assessment or to register your interest, click here.

Do you offer group programs? Yes. We offer a variety of group programs. Please refer to the group tab on our website for further information and to register your interest click here.

My child attended a group program. Why can’t they see that psychologist for individual sessions and why do they need to go on the waitlist? All our clinicians are very busy. Our group facilitators often have an existing case load and at times are unable take on additional clients. Speak to our friendly reception who can advise of a suitable alternative Psychologist.

Do you only offer Psychology? No. Youngminds is a specialist Allied Health Organisation. We also offer Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Social Work.

Do you see clients outside the home? No, not generally. If you cannot make it into clinic, it may be an option for you to have your appointments via Telehealth or Video Conferencing. Please speak to our reception for more information.

Why do I have to pay a late cancellation fee? You don’t like paying it and we don’t like charging it. The reality is, it is our time you are paying for. We only have a limited amount of time per day to see clients and unfortunately, we can never ‘make it up’ like businesses who sell products can. There are also many fee generating admin tasks that go along with the booking and cancelling of appointments. A good Clinician will have a session plan organised before the appointment has even begun.

Can I choose which Psychologist I want to see? All our psychologist’s have special interests and training in different areas. We want you to be matched with the right person so please talk to our friendly reception who will help you decide which clinician is best suited to your needs.

I need an appointment and reception has told me you’re full, what should I do? If it is an emergency call 000. Lifeline has a 24-hour crisis hotline:13 11 14 if you need to talk to someone right away. Alternatively, speaking to your GP can be a great source of support. Our clinicians do their very best to accommodate all new and existing clients.

I’ve been offered an appointment with a Provisional Psychologist. Will I get the same level of treatment and care that a fully registered Psychologist provides? Yes. All our Provisional Psychologists have completed their Bachelor of Psychology with Honors and in some cases are taking on further education to gain a Master’s degree. All our Provisional Psychologists are fully supported and supervised by our Principal Clinician Melinda Garred and board-certified supervisors.
